Potato chips are a versatile snack. The versatility of chips is evidenced by the fact that they can be found in almost any country in the world.
And depending on local preferences and culinary traditions, the chips are made with different flavors and flavors. Some of them look rather strange, but the manufacturers don't go to any lengths to draw attention to their product.
Lobster with cheese. When it comes to lobster on a platter, it’s a gourmet restaurant and fine dining, not a bag of chips and a glass of beer. Nevertheless, it is quite possible to enjoy lobsters in a democratic environment. The chip makers gave their product a lobster and cheese flavor. Such an unusual variety is offered by the Lays company, producing it in China. And if it may seem that such an idea is not strange enough, then it is worth evaluating the packaging of these chips. On it, lobsters literally enjoy bathing in a viscous cheese sauce. Apparently, they are not ready to evaluate such an amazing variety of chips anywhere except in China.
Baked beans. Some manufacturers skillfully play with the flaws of their products, turning them into advantages. What can you do about a bad bean flavor? Although everyone knows that legumes are good for the heart, the glory of this product is in enhancing the natural gas emissions of a person. It looks somehow not very appetizing. However, Walkers released a bean-flavored chips in 2003 in an attempt to counter this effect. Each pack of the product was sold with a souvenir - a free fart pillow for harmless pranks. And the release of such chips initially had no commercial focus. The producer thus supported the English comic event "Comic Relief", which humorously raised money to help developing countries. The British urged big companies and the public to do weird and wacky things. Someone rode a unicycle with a pie in hand, wore clothes backwards. The Walkers, on the other hand, joked about one of human weaknesses. And while it seemed to everyone that the chips would stop producing after the program ended, they turned out to be so unusual and funny that the charity helped boost sales. This is how Walkers branded pillows spread everywhere.
Kiwi. Kiwi is a rather unusual product that does not work well for cheesecakes and snacks. It's hard to imagine a hamburger or kiwi pie. It will taste just disgusting mucus, moreover, not quite appetizing green. But Lays has found another way for kiwi to enter the world of snacks. The aroma of this fruit appeared in the manufacturer's chips, becoming part of the "cool and refreshing" line. Eating these potato leaves feels like eating a thin layer of sliced kiwi. Although, in fact, we are talking about a completely different product. Again, we are talking about chips for the Chinese market. Sales there are due to the fact that kiwi in this country is not a curiosity at all, but a natural and pleasant food. True, they usually prefer to eat kiwi whole, in extreme cases, in the form of mashed potatoes. Interestingly, this line of chips is also available with blueberry flavor. Does anyone really like it more in combination with potatoes than in dessert?
Builder's breakfast. It is strange why an English manufacturer suddenly preoccupied the workers of this specialty with breakfast. Even in the UK itself, the food of the builders is not of particular interest to anyone. Attention to this profession is riveted only thanks to the fashion for lowered pants. But what does breakfast have to do with it? The average builder does not eat chips at home in the morning, but fresh eggs, fresh bacon and toast. The creator of this taste, Emma Raschin, decided to put it all together and create such an unusual taste for the Walkers' Make Us Taste Competition. The "Builder's Breakfast" chips were born in 2008. Along with this taste, five even more exotic variants fought for the right to enter permanent production. But in 2010, the unusual chips were discontinued after the manufacturer held a new competition. Apparently, the British public was not particularly interested in what the builders eat.
Lamb giblets with ground pepper. In Scotland, there is a national dish - haggis. It represents chopped lamb giblets with spices, boiled in the stomach of lamb. Apparently, you really have to be brave to eat such food. And really brave people won't be afraid to try haggis flavored chips. This is the kind of potato product produced by the Scottish manufacturer Mackie’s. And it's hard to imagine these chips being popular anywhere else. But the taste of the product is really pleasant, and the digestive system of a person unfamiliar with Scottish delicacies tolerates these chips generally favorably. Only now it is difficult to get rid of the thought of what this unusual taste belongs to. But you can try really Scottish food in the form of potato chips.
Smoked ham with pickles. The British responded to a typical Scottish dish with their typical. Anyone holding a bag of Brabnnigans chips might think this is an eccentric dish. Prior to that, the market was selling the tastes of cheese with pickles, ham with other additives. But in this combination, the chips are really unique. True, there is a related variety - with beef and mustard flavor. It even hurts to eat such chips, because the spicy seasoning is quite strong. Over time, the manufacturer came to the conclusion that people like the burning sensation itself, and it doesn't matter where it comes from, even if it comes from something eccentric. And not only the British liked this unusual taste. In local stores, these chips are no longer so popular, but wholesale trade is carried out with might and main in online stores and on Ebay.
Cucumber and goat. When you try to figure out what the most unusual plant-based flavor of chips can be, watery cucumbers clearly don't come to mind. But Lays decided that the cucumber would be a great addition to China's cool and refreshing product line, in addition to the blueberries and kiwis discussed above. But this type of chips has an interesting feature. In Belgium, their aroma is called cucumber and goat. But the Lays employees were clearly not trying to give the chips something goaty. This is due to the play on words, which in Belgium changed cucumbers into goat cheese. Not only are the chips themselves watery and tasteless, but in some places they are also associated with hairy animals.
Chili and chocolate. In pursuit of consumers, manufacturers don't hesitate to produce really strange things. In fact, the hot pepper and chocolate mixture is not such a novelty. Sweet tiles with a little chili added and this product is for sale! So why not transfer this unusual experience to the production of chips, they thought at Walkers. And this is really weird. Chips work great with chili, chocolate works great with peppers, but would the threesome be compatible? The inventor of this variety, Ekaterina Veich, in defense of her creation, said that at first glance, these chili with chocolate do not seem suitable for a potato crisp. In fact, this combination is simply amazing - the warmth of the spice and the aroma of cocoa. Only now the public did not understand this idea, and this kind of chips gave way to an even stranger "Builder's Breakfast".
Pepsi and Chicken. Once again, we will return to China in search of the crazy scent. The Lays company has released chips with pepsi and chicken flavors. It seems that the stomach can not bear such a mockery. In fact, this idea is not so strange. Cooking meat in carbonated drinks has become more and more popular lately. You can remember at least pork in Dr. Pepper, sausages in Coca-Cola. Caramelized chicken wings made with the popular American carbonated drink are a common dish in Chinese cuisine. And it really makes sense, since the meat also gets an extra sweet flavor. Local advertisements take this approach, featuring a man rushing out to buy a Pepsi for his girlfriend. But she is in no hurry to drink a drink, but pours soda over the chicken wings that she is preparing. Not surprisingly, after that, the appearance of chips with such a taste. The pack eloquently depicts fat wings falling deliciously into a bowl of Pepsi. True, most foreign consumers will hardly appreciate the taste of such chips, feeling mostly nausea from them.
Cajun squirrel. If plant components in chips are not surprising in principle, then the appearance of protein as a component is surprising. True, Walkers explains that no protein was harmed in the process of creating the crunchy product. It is not clear only how, then, artificially it was possible to recreate the taste of the animal? How was the manufacturer able to know about the taste of proteins without harming them? Most likely, this kind of chips is primarily intended to attract attention. The manufacturer decided to build on the flavor of the chicken, decorating it with Cajun spices to get something new. However, the consumer will always have before his eyes the images of frightened forest creatures chased by the representatives of "Walkers". Journalist Charlie Brooker described the taste as "gasping a kitten right in the mouth." And if the creation of Martin Wright from Staffordshire did not win in the competition of the weirdest tastes, there was no equal to it on our list!
